Write Here SCRIBO Obsidian
Obsidian – deep and dark, a material shrouded in mystery and superstition. Created by rapidly cooling volcanic lava, it is a naturally occurring glass.
The Write Here SCRIBO Obsidian is made in 40 numbered pieces by Scrittura Bolognese in Bologna. Flaminia Angelone’s design is unchanged. It is of cylindrical design tapering gently at each end. It has a screw-on cap, which does not post: however, the pen is well balanced. The cap band is inscribed “Write Here” and “Made in Italy”. The nibs – both 14ct flex and 18ct – are identical with the OMAS OM81, made on the original machine shipped by OMAS to Heidelberg many years ago. It is a piston filler.
We have named the resin Obsidian, which it closely resembles. Created by rapidly cooling volcanic lava, it is a naturally occurring glass, found all over the world near volcanic activity. The swirls of lighter material amongst the darkness give rise to a sense of mystery.
John Dee, the famed Elizabethan courtier, scientist, diplomat and occultist, owned an obsidian mirror which he used for scrying – attempting to see into the future and obtain arcane knowledge. You can see it (and gaze into it) in the British Museum, where recent research has revealed it came from Mexico. When Elizabeth 1st became Queen in 1558 Dee was appointed her astrological and scientific advisor. An extraordinarily learned man, he was influential in many fields – mathematics, politics, librarianship and navigation. He is credited with coining the term “British Empire”.
John Dee was a fascinating man whose life and works have captivated many. Should you choose to study him further, you will find the Write Here SCRIBO Obsidian an invaluable aid to notetaking.
