The Visconti Homo Sapiens Dark Age Oversized Fountain Pen is made from ground lava from Mount Etna, on the Island of Sicily, which is ground and mixed with a durable resin to form a unique pen material that is almost indestructible. These extraordinary pens have a soft, warm feel in the hand, and because the material is slightly hygroscopic it also feels very dry to the touch.

The fittings on the Visconti Homo Sapiens Dark Age oversized fountain pen are in a dark ruthenium-plated metal that will undoubtedly appeal to those who like “stealth” pens, but which certainly give this luxury writing instrument a very striking appearance. These fittings include section band, the twin mid-cap bands, the cap finial button and, most noticably, the famous arched-bridge “Ponte Vecchio” spring clip that so obviously says “Made in Italy”.

For 2018, Visconti are now offering the Homo Sapiens range with a less-expensive tubular steel ‘Skeleton’ nib, or with their beautiful 23 carat Palladium ‘Dreamtouch’ nib that has graced these pens from their introduction.
