Kaza-e is a series of fountain pens that express the flowing wind with a striped pattern and beautifully drawn with lacquer. Since ancient times in Japan, names have been given to the wind that blows according to the four seasons and time of day, and the name of the beautiful wind is used as a motif. In the second Kaza-e,
The wind-blowing is expressed by attaching eggshells to create a more gorgeous impression. When Urushi techniques were being developed, it was difficult to find a pure white lacquer, so crushed egg shells were applied and then polished. Please enjoy the beautiful contrast between the black lacquer of the base and the white of the eggshells that are pasted on one by one by the hand of the craftsman, and then polished and a transparent coat of lacquer applied..
There are three pens in this series:
- Sea Breeze of Yae that blows from a distant sea route – this has a spiral pattern of “snow”
- Seasonal western wind (Western wind accompanied by rain during the rice planting season) This has horizontal bands of “snow”.
- Dredging wind (The wind that blows away the accumulated snow. Te wind has blown the snow straight down the pen!
The pens are a collaboration with Sailor pens, and underlying the beautiful decoration is an ebonite King of Pen. They are available in Medium or Broad
