Sailor Rei Wajima Tamenuri Fountain Pen
The Sailor Rei Urushi-nuri is a series of Urushi lacquer fountain pens on a base of ebonite, making it not only beautiful in appearance, with a deeply lustrous finish which will endure and develop. Urushi lacquer is is durable, anti corrosive, resistant to water, acids and alkalis. It does not have a clip.
The Sailor Rei Wajima Tamenuri has a rounded cap and base, but is a much larger pen.
Wajima is a city on the east coast of Japan. It has a history of producing the finest lacquerware dating back over 1300 years. The artist who has created Wajima Tamenuri is Masanora Sumi, who has over forty years experience as a master craftsman at Wajima, and is one of the few craftsmen who have mastered all 100 Wajima-nuri productions techniques. This includes preparing the substrate – ebonite being the ideal for pens – base, intermediate and top coating, and the continuous polishing between applications. A distinctive feature of the Wajima-nuri technique is the durable undercoating achieved by the applying multiple layers of urushi mixed with powdered diatomaceous earth (ji-no-ko). The craftsmen are known as hon-kataji.
The cap and barrel are made from Ebonite, while the section is made from PMMA plastic. Only available in Medium 21ct nib, It is a cartridge / converter. pen.
It comes in a beautiful Pawlownia box and has a silk pen pouch.
