Sailor ‘Rei’ Wajima Akebononuri Fountain Pen
The Sailor Rei Urushi-nuri is a series of Ebonite bodied Urushi lacquered fountain pens, making it not only beautiful in appearance, with it’s glossy finish but also extremely durable, with other superb features such as antiseptic properties, adhesiveness, heat insulation, and anti chemical characteristics.
The Wajima Akebononuri has rounded edges similar to Sailor’s 1911 design. The cap and section are black with the classic gold trim on the nib and rings that are covered when capped. Towards the middle of the barrel the black starts to fade into the bright red on the end of the pen.
Wajima-nuri is a delicate and time-consuming lacquering method, done by skilled craftsmen, known as hon-kataji. It is a traditional technique of undercoating, which is used here to create these stunning fountain pens.
The artist who has created Wajima Akebononuri is Masanora Sumi, who has over forty years experience as a master craftsman at Wajima.
The cap and barrel are made from Ebonite, while the section is made from PMMA plastic. Only available in Medium 21ct, cartridge and converter.
