Onoto William Shakespeare Portrait Fountain Pen

The Onoto William Shakespeare Portrait Fountain Pen is a luxury, limited-edition tribute to the Bard of Avon, made by Onoto’s craftsmen and -women from hallmarked sterling silver with yellow gold and rose-gold plated features.

The Onoto William Shakespeare portrait fountain pen has a distinctive and striking barrel made of sterling silver. The most noticeable feature of the cap is the famous portrait of Shakespeare reproduced as a hand-made miniature on vitreous enamel, surrounded by an oval gold frame that is wrapped around the cap opposite the clip. The clip itself is plated in rose gold, and features the Onoto cipher and chevrons that are a famous feature of Onoto pens. The body of the cap is sculpted with almost architectural recesses, and the polished cap band bears a facsimile of (one version of !) William Shakespeare’s signature.

The barrel, again in sterling silver, is engine turned in an elegant barleycorn pattern, leaving a plain panel for the characteristic engraving of the words “ONOTO the PEN” and “Made in England“.

As with all the luxury fountain pens in their range, the Onoto William Shakespeare Portrait Fountain Pens is fitted with the Onoto number 7 nib (which is 8.4mm at the widest), in this case in 18-carat gold as standard. The nib is available in Fine, Medium and Broad, but for an additional fee, Onoto will fit the pen with a hand-ground nib to almost any possible profile you wish. Also included with this unique writing instrument is an alternative sterling silver section that can be used to convert the pen into a rollerball, simple by unscrewing the one nib unit from the barrel (see pictures, above) and screwing in the other; in effect, it is two pens in one.

The Onoto William Shakespeare Portrait Fountain Pen is a well balanced and solid to hold, as it weighs (empty) over 100 grams. Unlike with their acrylic resin pens, Onoto do not offer the option to make this pen heavier! No measurement is given for the posted length of this pen, as the cap is a significant part of the overall weight of the pen.
